Chicago Bears land J.J. Watt in one of these blockbuster trades
By Ryan Heckman
With J.J. Watt likely playing in his final game for Houston, the Chicago Bears may pounce on that situation.
It is a curious circumstance unfolding over in Houston. After firing Bill O’Brien last year and going through some coaching changes, the Texans might still end up being without their top two players after this offseason.
Both Watt and franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson have expressed their displeasure with the Houston organization and look like they are on their way out. Watson, for one, has officially requested a trade away from the Texans. Not even the coaching change could keep Watson from leaving.
Watt, meanwhile, has found his name amongst rumors lately that says he does not want to play another game in a Houston uniform. We have not heard an official trade request just yet, but it seems like a foregone conclusion that he will be dealt sooner or later.
For a guy who has one year left on his contract and counts $17.5 million against the cap in 2021, the Texans shouldn’t have a problem finding a home for Watt if they oblige.
The teams’ all-time leader in sacks with 101, Watt has been the face of the franchise for most of his time in Houston. He’s been a pro’s pro, battled through a multitude of injuries and now looks like he’s healthy after playing all season in 2020.
He doesn’t meet any immediate need, but if the Bears wanted to continue loading up on that defense to try and make a run in 2021, a Watt trade shouldn’t be out of the question. Just how would they land him? One of these trades should get it done.
