The Chicago Bears signing Andy Dalton is rightfully frustrating. The result of Dalton is not near as annoying as the process in which they got there, but the reality is that they are here. Now what. The Bears are likely not to be done at quarterback.

In fact, the signing of Dalton may make them even more prone to trading up in the 2021 NFL draft. Why is that, and what gives the Chicago Bears a chance to pull this off?

5. Nick Foles will be gone

If the Chicago Bears are going to draft a quarterback of any significance, they need to clear Nick Foles out. Spending so much on two quarterbacks, only to limit their reps with a rookie would be too many cooks in the kitchen scenario. For Dalton and a rookie in the room together, it is a fresh start in a lot of ways.

Nick Foles has a roster bonus that is due on March 20. It would guarantee $4 million, which the Bears will need. If they do not plan on Foles competing with Dalton, they need to ship Foles out in the next two days. While many will question who would send a draft pick for Nick Foles, the reality is that he is a quality veteran backup on a reasonable deal. Quarterbacks are always needed.

Beyond that, the Bears are going to get a conditional late-round pick of sorts back. No matter what they get back, expect the quarterback room in 2021 to be Andy Dalton, a rookie, and of course, Tyler Bray.
