Chicago Bears: Round 6, Pick No. 204

Doubling up on the Northern Iowa prospects, I took a flier on Elerson Smith. The teammate of Spencer Brown doesn’t get talked about enough due to Brown getting all the attention, but Smith is no slouch either. He was essentially one of the few players that gave Dillon Radunz trouble at the FCS level.

In 2019, Smith was incredible for the Panthers racking up 63 total tackles, 14.0 sacks, 21.5 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles, four pass deflections, and two blocked kicks. He was a force.

Smith could give the Bears more depth as an EDGE rusher as both their starters are aging and they don’t have much promise after that. They drafted Trevis Gipson last year, but we haven’t seen much from him yet. They additionally signed Jeremiah Attaochu from the Denver Broncos who provides nice depth. Smith could learn behind the veteran studs in Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn.

Round 6, Pick No. 208

208. player. 842. Pick Analysis. ILB. K.J.Britt. Auburn. Scouting Report

K.J. Britt didn’t pop off of the stat sheet at Auburn, but he showed to be a solid run-stopping inside linebacker. Britt isn’t the best athlete or the fastest, but he isn’t afraid to fly and make tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage. He showed that in 2020 racking up 23 total tackles in just two games due to injuries. He needs to improve at defending the pass, but he is a project inside linebacker that could prosper with some work.

As a project inside linebacker, Britt fits the Bears well. They have a veteran leader in Danny Trevathan, who may be slowing down. They additionally have a top-five inside linebacker in the NFL in Roquan Smith. On top of those two, they have a solid starter and high-end backup in Christian Jones. He has plenty of great inside linebackers to learn from at his disposal.
