Chicago Bears are lucky to see a talent like Jalen Mayfield fall in the second

In Round 2, the Bears would address the offensive line. They should be just fine on the inside with how the backups fared last year, and might even be pretty deep on the interior. Cody Whitehair, James Daniels and (hopefully) Sam Mustipher could be the starters on the inside with Germain Ifedi and Alex Bars being the depth pieces, or even one of them a starter at tackle.

Charles Leno is the wild card, though, because he’s getting paid to start at left tackle. However, if he isn’t the best player for the job, he won’t start — especially if Bars or Ifedi beat him out while the Bears start a rookie at the other tackle position.

That rookie very well could be Michigan offensive tackle, Jalen Mayfield. Although he only started 13 games in college, Mayfield is the prototypical offensive tackle any team would be lucky to draft. He originally opted out of the 2020 season but opted back in, which ended up being a great decision for his future.

Over his time at Michigan, Mayfield has faced some incredible pass rushers in the Big Ten; none more highly touted than Chase Young, of course. Mayfield proved he could hold his own against the best pass rushers in the country, and he might even go higher than this. But, for the sake of this mock, he was available at 52, and the Bears would feel fortunate to have gotten him.
