Chicago Bears 2021 NFL Draft: Ideal Round 1 trade-back scenarios
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears watch another team do what they do best
One intriguing deal that seems kind of crazy on one hand, but also perfectly sensible on the other, is if the Bears moved back with Baltimore. The most interesting aspect of it all is who the Ravens end up targeting at pick No. 20 overall.
Ravens’ pick at No. 20: EDGE Gregory Rousseau, Miami
Bears’ pick at No. 27: CB Greg Newsome II, Northwestern
No matter how many pieces this team adds to their defense, they can seemingly always add more. It’s never enough. Baltimore just continues to add studs to that side of the ball. Even though they could use another receiver for Lamar Jackson, the Ravens simply can’t pass up one of this year’s top edge rushers in Miami’s Gregory Rousseau. Talk about the rich getting richer.
The Bears would also go defense in this scenario, picking up a kid who wouldn’t travel far. Northwestern’s Greg Newsome II is a Day 1 starter at cornerback and would make things interesting for Desmond Trufant, who just signed with the Bears. Newsome would replace Kyle Fuller, thus potentially sliding Trufant into the slot to replace Buster Skrine.
Newsome is a physical freak and has serious speed, leaping ability and excellent ball skills. He would be a true value at pick No. 27, but it doesn’t end there. The Bears also get a late third-rounder and a fourth-round pick from the Ravens, while sending back their fifth-round selection.
