Post-NFL Draft must-sign free agents for the Chicago Bears: EDGE Justin Houston

Speaking of moves to make if the Bears are all-in on this season, Justin Houston would give the Bears one heck of a trio off the edge. Last year, the team signed Robert Quinn to an enormous free agent deal that didn’t exactly pan out in year one.

Hopefully, Quinn is completely healthy and in the right state of mind to dominate this year, just as he did the previous season with Dallas. But, no matter what, the Bears need to be ready to deploy their reserve pass rushers.

At this stage in his career, Justin Houston would serve well as a situational pass rusher. He’s 32 years old but has still posted at least 8.0 sacks in each of the past four seasons. Houston enjoyed four-straight Pro Bowl nods earlier in his career where he was also an All-Pro, and since then he’s still been a steady pass rusher.

Houston has played both with his hand in the dirt and also as an outside linebacker, so the Bears could even get creative with where they decided to play him. But, in the end, they would be getting a highly-touted veteran who would be great for the locker room and give this defense yet another weapon for Sean Desai to unleash.
