1. Alex Erickson

Alex Erickson is an intriguing option, and a bit of a happy medium between Tate and Cooper. He is much younger than Tate, and while he does not have quite Tate’s experience on the field, he brings much more receiving value than Pharoah Cooper.

Beyond that, Erickson also brings as much, if not more return game value than Cooper, and clearly much more than Tate. Erickson has 135 punt returns and 108 kick returns in his career.

The Bears drafted Dazz Newsome and Khalil Herbert as a punt return and kick return option. Considering both are day three rookies, it is not guaranteed they win the job. They could find Erickson with the ability to do both. He does not have a TD return like Cooper but has great averages in each area.

Erickson also has found success in the slot in the NFL. In 2019 Erickson saw a career-high 43 catches for 529 yards. A career-high for Anthony Miller is 52 catches for 656 yards. Erickson is hardly a drop-off, but a huge upgrade on special teams.

Erickson lost time in Cincy as Tyler Boyd moved into the slot, and with Tee Higgins and JaMarr Chase in the mix, they do not have the need. However, he has relied on slot option with return game value. Him beating out Miller and Newsome and saving the Bears roster spots on special teams is possible.
