2021 roster rank No. 18: Do Chicago Bears have a trusted center?
We are slowly but surely getting closer to the start of training camp. We know this because we are now into the top 20 of our countdown of the Chicago Bears roster. This list started with the number 90 and is counting down the roster all the way to the most valuable player.
This list is focusing on what they can provide this season and how their impact in 2021 could help the roster. With that said, who is number 18?
No. 18 Chicago Bears Center Sam Mustipher
Last Year: 62
Last season there was a question whether Sam Mustipher would still be here. He signed as a UDFA with the Bears knowing he had a relationship with the OL coach. When Harry Hiestand was let go, Mustipher suddenly looked less likely to make the roster.
However, with an injury to James Daniels, he found himself on the active roster, and after shuffling some pieces, he found himself starting at center for the Chicago Bears stretch run.
The Bears running game was at its best when Mustipher was at center, and with little to add to the room, all indications are that he is going to be the starter coming into training camp.
It could be argued that Sam Mustipher should be higher as the starting center is a key piece. However, Mustipher has a limited sample size, and just as easily be replaced by James Daniels and see Alex Bars step in at guard.
From 62 all the way up into the top 20 shows what kind of finish to he had and also speaks to the confidence they showed in him this offseason. However, he is not quite top 15 until he proves a little more.
