2021 Chicago Bears roster rank No. 16: Will Danny Trevathan help or hurt?
As we get closer to the start of training camp we are getting closer to the top 10 in our countdown of the Chicago Bears roster. We started all the way back at number 90 but are now at number 16 in our list.
This list focuses on 2021 and what type of value these players can have for the team this season. Who is number 16?
No. 16 Chicago Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan
After his 2020 season, it is very fair for Danny Trevathan to fall. However, it may be surprising to see that he did not fall too far. The reality is that the worst of Trevathan was at the start of the 2020 season, and he got better as the year went on.
More than that is the realization that the Bears did little to get him off of the field next year. The Bears have experimented with Deon Bush for years and he has not proven more valuable than the heady Trevathan.
They signed Christian Jones, but his best trait is a pass rusher, and he may use some snaps spelling Robert Quinn and not Trevathan.
Trevathan is signed not only for this year but next so he is not going anywhere. He is a starter at middle linebacker and is trusted due to his understanding of the pieces around him.
With that in mind, the defense success is going to hinge on him making plays in coverage on big spots, or him not falling for play-action and staying in his lane. The impact of Trevathan is huge which is why he remains one of the 16 best players on the roster heading into 2021.
