Rookie Dazz Newsome should be able to make the Chicago Bears roster

Coming into the 2021 offseason, Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy were under a lot of pressure to improve this Bears offense. After addressing their needs at QB and OT, Pace and Nagy selected North Carolina WR Dazz Newsome with the 221st pick in the sixth round.

In his Junior and Senior year at UNC, Newsome was quarterback Sam Howell’s go-to man in the slot. With 72 catches for 1,018 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2019, and 54 catches for 684 yards and six touchdowns in 2020, his athleticism and footwork give Chicago Bears coaches plenty to work with.

In three seasons on special teams, Newsome returned 48 punts for 535 yards and a return touchdown. With Tarik Cohen still nursing a torn ACL, and Anthony Miller being traded to the Texans, there is a need for guys like Dazz Newsome on this team. Given his separation quickness and roster flexibility, I see Newsome as the guy who gets the Bears’ sixth and final wide receiver spot on the 53-man roster.
