Players making roster cuts difficult for the Chicago Bears: Alec Ogletree, ILB
A couple of weeks ago, the Bears’ inside linebackers were probably set. Obviously, starters Roquan Smith and Danny Trevathan were locks, along with backups Joel Iyiegbuniwe, Josh Woods, and the highly-respected Christian Jones.

Jones and Woods are mostly guys who will come in and play on defense while Iyiegbuniwe is a special teams guy. But, with the signing of Alec Ogletree, things changed drastically. Over his first five practices, Ogletree had six interceptions.
Not to mention, he came up big on Saturday against Miami. When the Dolphins were facing a goal-to-go situation from just a couple yards out, Ogletree came up and stuffed running back Malcolm Brown to force a goal-line stand and field goal attempt.
Ogletree also found himself making a few other plays around the ball on Saturday and looked excellent. He’s almost to the point of making a case to challenge Trevathan. So, with Ogletree likely a guy who makes this roster, the coaching staff is faced with a difficult decision. They could keep four or five inside linebackers, meaning that either one or two of those other three are out.
The Bears are going to end up cutting one or two talented players thanks to Ogletree’s performance, but they would much rather have depth at a position like that, so it’s a good problem to have.
