Every NFL season, rankings of all kinds come out prior to the regular season and even more during the season. Power rankings will see updates on a weekly basis. Fantasy football rankings will be picked over with a fine-tooth comb. Positional rankings will also be made. In this case, FanSided published their 2021 quarterback rankings and we look at where they ranked the Chicago Bears starting quarterback, Andy Dalton.

Andy Dalton in my opinion is an upgrade over Nick Foles. I don’t find him to be an overall upgrade over Mitch Trubisky, however, he does have a better deep ball that should help this offense more than the skillset that Trubisky brought. This is partly due to Matt Nagy’s unwillingness to build his offense around his player’s strengths, but that’s a different argument that will not be made because, well, the Chicago Bears have Justin Fields now and Mitch Trubisky is gone so what’s the point?

FanSided recently published their annual NFL preview, which includes plenty of great content. One of the more popular articles is the annual quarterback rankings. These rankings will be updated throughout the season, but let’s take a look at how they view the Chicago Bears’ current starter, Andy Dalton, shall we?

FanSided does not seem to like Chicago Bears starting quarterback, Andy Dalton

We will not give away the full rankings (will have to check them out for yourself), however, what we will tell you is that Andy Dalton is ranked 31st in the NFL by FanSided as we head into Week 1 of the regular season. I wonder if Justin Fields were starting, would he have a higher ranking? I bet the answer to that would be yes as Mac Jones is ranked 23rd and Trevor Lawrence is ranked 22nd.

The worst part is that the rival to the north has the top quarterback, although FanSided does admit that Aaron Rodgers’ 2020 season played a big part in the ranking and could quickly fall (not very far, unfortunately).

The only quarterback to come in behind Dalton to start the season is Tyrod Taylor. If Taylor was the quarterback of the Chicago Bears, I bet he’d be 31st though as Houston’s situation is just awful. What’s nice to see is that FanSided believes we will see Justin Fields in about a week. Too bad I don’t have as much faith in that timeline as they do. Just ahead of Andy Dalton is Sam Darnold and Zach Wilson. What do you think, should Dalton be higher on this list?
