Special teams ace, Jakeem Grant has earned a spot on the Chicago Bears offense

It came as a bit of a surprise when the Bears made a trade for former Miami Dolphin Jakeem Grant. The Bears needed a return specialist, as Tarik Cohen continues to remain on the PUP list.

He’s proven his value of how explosive and fast he can be when he returned his first punt for a touchdown in the 2021 NFL season. In fact, with just four touches in that game, Grant scored twice.

It could be argued that this is a recency bias pick, but Grant has also begun to step up in the offense. The Bears receiving core lost some key pieces to injury over the past few weeks, thrusting Grant into a larger role. His blazing speed has allowed the Bears to be creative with his usage. Of course, he’s also not too bad in terms of route running and capitalizing on opportunities.

Things get a bit complicated with his contract. The Dolphins voided his contract to make him a free agent in 2022 rather than 2024. If the Bears feel like his value on special teams and his offensive potential are both worth it, reclaiming some consistency would be beneficial.
