Chicago Bears Head Coach Candidate: Dave Toub – Stock Neutral

Last Week: Stock Up

Nothing has really changed here with Dave Toub. That’s the one downfall of a special teams coach. You cannot really gauge and grade them in the same ways you do an offensive or defensive coordinator. This is also probably why they don’t get the same opportunities as many of the coordinators do throughout the league. That said, I am still fairly high on Toub.

As I mentioned last week, Toub is not in my top five. He’s probably in that six to eight range. I wrote a whole profile on him here if you missed it or didn’t check the link in last week’s stock report. I wrote the following regarding Toub last week and it still holds true today:

I am coming around to the idea that the next Chicago Bears head coach needs to be a great manager. What I mean by that is, that I want the next head coach to be what Matt Nagy refused to be until forced — by then it was too late. I want the Chicago Bears to consider a head coach who knows how to delegate.

The idea of a head coach who handles the details of the entire team, while allowing his coordinators and positional coaches to handle the offensive and defensive schemes just makes too much sense to me. What better than a special teams coordinator to take on that role? This is why I have Dave Toub’s stock on the rise despite not being mentioned in the national spotlight.

I still stand by this thought process, even though he is not technically on my shortlist. He’d be brought in for an interview though if I were running the Chicago Bears.
