Chicago Bears Week 15 Dud No. 2: Damiere Byrd

Damiere Byrd was a nice addition this offseason along with Marquise Goodwin to add speed to the team, but he has not had the same year we saw last year in New England. He has yet to catch any deep shots, which is his forte, and he has only seen action recently because of Goodwin being out with injury. Also, a couple of big drops against the Vikings has not helped his cause.

We saw him used out of the backfield last week and he found the endzone on a nice catch and run, but that was his first score of the year and the only notable play he has made. There are guys behind him that should be playing in order to see what they can do. Guys like Dazz Newsome and Rodney Adams are names that should see more playing time than Byrd.

This was probably Byrd’s worst game of the season for the sole fact that he is the WR2 on this team now and he struggled in that role. His production is up, but he made mistakes that hurt the Bears during this game. His limited production this year has been a disappointment after he had an underrated year in New England last season. Hopefully, he shows more in an expanded role down the stretch with the Bears missing some of their other top wideouts.

Damiere Byrd was a good addition in the offseason and has shown flashes this season of the type of game-changer he can be with his speed. I like how Nagy has been using him as a mismatch out of the backfield because he is good with the ball in his hands. Unfortunately, this game is a reminder that Byrd has been a bit of a let-down this year as the whole speed lineup at wide receiver has not panned out the way most thought it would.
