The Chicago Bears roster

The plus side for the next Chicago Bears general manager is that his core players on offense and defense will be set minus some pieces.

  • QB – Justin Fields backup Nick Foles
  • RB – David Montgomery backup Khalil Herbert
  • UT – Tarik Cohen (Hopefully)
  • WR – Darnell Mooney
  • TE – Cole Kmet
  • OL – Cody Whitehair,  Teven Jenkins, Larry Borom,
  • DL – Eddie Goldman, Khyris Tonga, Mario Edwards, Angelo Blackson
  • Edge – Khalil Mack, Robert Quinn, Trevis Gibson, Jeremiah Attaochu
  • LB – Roquan Smith, Danny Trevathan, Caleb Johnson
  • CB – Jaylon Johnson, Duke Shelley, Kindle Vildor
  • S/DB – Eddie Jackson

Other players could be retained depending on what the next coach and GM suggest. Every team in the NFL has its core players and one or two superstars. The most significant difference would be depth. The Chicago Bears will need a GM who can adapt because this next offseason will be about gaining bodies and depth pieces while attempting to grab some core pieces to replace other positions. If there is any year in Chicago Bears history to wish for trading back, this next draft will be that year. The Chicago Bears will need to turn five draft picks into ten if possible.

The Chicago Bears could go the route of rebuilding as well. Something I will be warning other fans all off-season. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Chicago Bears traded away big names like Robert Quinn, Khalil Mack, Eddie Goldman, or even Roquan Smith.

The plan to build around Justin Fields is a possibility, but until we know who that GM and coach are, we won’t know if their goal is to aim for the next two seasons or further. Lastly, since we are talking about the GM spot and head coach for the Chicago Bears — who of the candidates that the Chicago Bears had requested interviews with would fit the best? My ideal head coach and GM would be Morocco Brown from the Colts as GM and Josh McDaniels from the Patriots.
