Loss that Hurts No. 4: Week 9, Chicago Bears @ Pittsburgh Steelers

For those that might follow my Twitter, you’d know this one was coming up based off the tweet I made while writing this.

This game might be the most painful Chicago Bears loss that I’ve watched since maybe the Super Bowl loss to the Indianapolis Colts. It didn’t have nearly the same implications as the Super Bowl, but the loss hurt more than any from the 2021 season.

One of the main reasons it hurt so much was because it was a game where Justin Fields made visible improvements from weeks prior. This was Justin Fields’ breakout game, and a win on Monday Night in Pittsburgh would’ve made this game far more enjoyable to reminisce about.

However, I don’t even think of Justin Fields immediately when thinking of this game — and that really sucks.

Instead, I get to be reminded of the beautiful Tony Corrente and his apparent hatred for Chicago and all things associated.

For all those kids reading at home, make sure not to ever replicate the putrid act displayed by Cassius Marsh after making a sack on a Hall of Fame quarterback in a Monday Night game in Heinz Field.

In case your memory has lapsed of said putrid act, I’ll include a clip. Please note that this clip is NSFW, and if you have children, please be mindful.

This play was essentially what cost the Chicago Bears to head into the Bye Week with a record of 3-6 after a 27-29 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It’s tough to beat an opponent in the NFL, and although I’m oftentimes anti-blaming the refs for a loss, Tony Corrente and his crew deserve a lot of the blame for the result being the way it was that Monday Night.

All-in-all, the 2021 season was one of disappointment, pain, and Justin Fields progression, but these four losses hurt the Chicago Bears the absolute most.
