Chicago Bears Captain No. 2: David Montgomery, HB

David Montgomery, since getting drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2019, has been a very vocal leader on and off the field. No matter what the situation is, even when Nagy wouldn’t use him on countless 3rd and 1 plays, Montgomery has poured his heart out for this team.

Not only that, but Chicago is the place Montgomery wants to play for his entire career. Whether that happens or not, only time will tell. Following the season finale against Minnesota, Montgomery spoke on his hopeful future with the Chicago Bears by saying:

"“I want to come to work every day and just help as much as I can, so I can be a [Chicago] Bear for the rest of my career.”"

Obviously, it would have to be team-friendly deals to bring him back, as running backs don’t often produce at the level they’re paid when their contract gets extended.

Once he joined the Bears, Montgomery has been a consistent producer of offense in an offense that hardly produced.

"David Montgomery Stats since being drafted 2019: 242 carries (T-13th), 889 yards (18th), 6 rushing touchdowns (T-17th) 2020: 247 carries (4th), 1,070 yards (T-5th), 8 rushing touchdowns (T-13th) 2021: 225 carries (9th), 849 rushing yards (17th), 7 rushing touchdowns (T-13th)"

While the numbers aren’t in the top three of the league, it’s not David Montgomery to blame. The Chicago Bears offense is one that consistently ranks in the bottom half of the league— even the bottom quarter under Nagy’s offensive mastermind.

That being said, David Montgomery absolutely deserves to wear the “C” if the Chicago Bears bring back yearly captains. He’s often someone you see giving absolute 100% effort each time he steps onto the field, and that’s a mindset that could become contagious if Montgomery’s given the “C”.

With two down and one to go, which offensive player should wrap up the offensive captains?
