In the fifth round, the Bears opt to go defense. Cornerback is definitely a position the Bears not only need to upgrade but establish some serious competition within. Jaylon Johnson is the only sure thing, but Thomas Graham Jr. looked like he had the potential to play a big role going forward, once he got his shot.

With pick 148, the Bears select cornerback Cordale Flott out of LSU — a school that has produced some of the best defensive backs in the land over the past decade.

Flott stands 6-foot-2 and is on the lighter end, weighing just 165 pounds. He has an extremely lean frame, yet isn’t afraid to get physical. Flott plays bigger than his frame would suggest, and he does have some length to boot.

What really makes Flott an intriguing prospect at this point in the draft is his ability to play multiple positions. LSU used him as an outside corner, in the nickel, and even as a deeper safety in the past.

Flott’s instincts in pass coverage could use a little polish, but his willingness to make contact in run support and shed blockers is a huge part of what makes him a worthy pick.
