Could this WR prospect fall to Chicago Bears in 2022 NFL draft?
How does Chris Olave fit with Chicago Bears?
A lot of people are talking up the potential of C.J. Stroud to be in the NFL next season, but Chris Olave had better yards per catch and better yards per game numbers in his two seasons with Justin Fields than his senior season with Stroud.
From the jump, Olave is starting to make sense. If there is one thing we learned about Justin Fields this year it is that he is never going to shy away from the deep ball, and apparently, Olave liked being on the receiving end of that.
The question becomes the realistic fit. On paper, Olave is a Z-wide receiver, who can move around and stretch the field. That is essentially what Darnell Mooney has done for the offense. The Chicago Bears need an X wideout to pair with Mooney the same way in which Olave needs an X wide receiver to pair with him. This is the same as Julio Jones being the X, and Calvin Ridley is the Z.
Of those, Darnell Mooney is the Ridley or the Olave. It is too similar of a skill set, and in the offense, Mooney is Fields’ Olave, so it is hard to say that they should draft Olave, who would just. take the deep shots away from Mooney, while neither is physical enough to take the hits over the middle of the field.
The question of whether he even will fall to 39 is one thing, but the fit is another. It is hard to say that Chris Olave will be on the Chicago Bears.
