The Chicago Bears trade a 2023 first-round pick for Amari Cooper

If the Chicago Bears were to make something like this happen, it would require Cooper to agree to restructure his contract to eliminate the $20 million cap hit this year. The team would be getting Cooper for the next three years as he’s signed through 2024 and it’s possible they give him a year extension in the process to entice the restructure.

Let me preface this with, the Chicago Bears would need Amari Cooper to restructure his deal no matter what they send to the Cowboys and although this is the first trade package listed, it would not be the first trade offer I’d make to Jerry Jones. Instead, this would need to be Ryan Poles’ final offer.

We know that Ryan Pace would make a deal of this magnitude, we don’t know what Ryan Poles will do yet, but all indications are that he would not want to give up a first-round pick. That said, he has been working in Kansas City where the team has not had a first-round pick in four of the last six years. Landing a player like Amari Cooper and giving that type of weapon to Justin Fields for the next three to four years might be worth it.

If Poles can restructure the contract with a signing bonus and give the team more flexibility, it means they can bring in some offensive linemen free agents to fill out the offensive side of the roster and then look to the draft for another wide receiver, more offensive linemen and possibly a starting-caliber cornerback.
