Pros and Cons to the Chicago Bears trading for Laviska Shenault Jr.
By Dakota Wayne
With the first day of free agency completed and the second day underway, the Jacksonville Jaguars have an almost completely different wide receiver room than they did the year before. And with another receiver reportedly on the trade block, the Chicago Bears could make a move for him, since free agent receivers have chosen teams other than the Bears.
This young receiver is 23-year-old Laviska Shenault Jr.
Should the Chicago Bears entertain trading for Laviska Shenault Jr.?
With the Jacksonville Jaguars having gone on quite the spending spree in Day One of free agency, it’s likely that Shenault could be on his way out of Jacksonville.
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receivers going into 2022
- Marvin Jones Jr.
- Christian Kirk
- Laviska Shenault Jr.
- Zay Jones
- Laquon Treadwell
- Tavon Austin
- Evan Engram (reportedly move to slot receiver)
And that’s not even the entire Jaguars receiver room. It’s a packed room, and it’s understandable why they’d go after so many guys, but considering they’re still in the market for a true No. 1 option, there’s nothing saying that these receivers aren’t fluid.
Standing 6’1″ and weighing in at 227lbs makes Laviska Shenault Jr. a good prospect for the Chicago Bears, who are in need of a big body in the receiver room with Allen Robinson likely on his way out.
However, the important part of this is Shenault’s not a free agent. That being said, it would take a trade to get him, and while the Chicago Bears aren’t completely on “empty” in terms of trade capital, they’re not a team that can afford shipping off too much for a player with a question mark on their head like Laviska Shenault.
There’s definitely an upside in getting someone like Shenault, but there’s also a downside given he hasn’t necessarily taken that next step from prospect to producer.
Given that Laviska Shenault’s a question mark, let’s look at his upside first.
