Chicago Bears: Rounds 5 and 6

The next three selections focused on finding players with a lot of potential but maybe more of projects. While you may find a diamond in the rough every so often (see players like Khalil Herbert in 2021), the focus here is depth.

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. CB. Alabama. JalynArmour-Davis. 148. 57

Chicago Bears: Round 5, Pick No. 148

One area the Bears need to address is talent in the secondary. Jalyn Armour-Davis was a four-star recruit out of St. Paul’s High School in Alabama before suffering an injury his first collegiate season. He has only one full season under his belt as a starter, but he made the most of it with three interceptions, four pass breakups, and 22 solo tackles. It’s certainly a risk to draft a player with a limited amount of playing time, but Armour-Davis was a solid contributor in a very good 2021 Alabama defense.

Scouting Report. Toledo. TycenAnderson. 150. Pick Analysis. S. player. 57

With the second-fastest 40-yard dash amongst safeties this year, Tycen Anderson brings the speed. He could be another solid depth piece to this Bears secondary. His measurables make him a prospect with a lot of physical potential. Anderson showed great open-field awareness at this year’s Senior Bowl and could find a way on the field in certain packages or on special teams as a rookie.

CB. Arizona State. player. 57. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 186. ChaseLucas

This mock draft is rounded up with another cornerback in Chase Lucas. He has long arms, a solid but thin frame, and the speed and height to be a solid outside cornerback or play in the slot. It’s most likely he’ll find playing time on special teams. His ability to play with receivers is notable, and he took advantage of the extra year of eligibility athletes received due to COVID-19. If the Bears want more young talent in their secondary, Lucas would be a good Day 3 selection.

Overall Thoughts

It’s not my favorite mock draft, nor is it the direction I would go if I was unable to trade back or up. However, given the choices from Bears fans, I do believe this draft gives the team two to three potential starters on offense while adding some rotational pieces on defense.
