Chicago Bears 53-man roster projection post draft
Linebacker (5): Roquam Smith, Nicholas Morrow, Matt Adams, Caleb Johnson, Jack Sanborn
The UDFA Sanborn makes the roster. This is another where you wonder if you are being ambitious, or if the roster is just so bare that he is almost a lock to make the roster. When you look at the depth names being left off of the roster at the linebacker, the big loser here is Joe Thomas, It is not like Sanborn is coming in and shocking the world making it over Thomas.
Cornerback (5): Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon, Tavon Young, Thomas Graham, Kindle Vildor
The top four are probably in good standing. The question comes down to how many cornerbacks they keep and who will be the fifth or sixth cornerback. Considering the lack of depth at the position, they probably are more likely to keep five than six.
For the fifth, Kindle Vildor has to have a good head upon Duke Shelley. Vildor has been able to play both slot and outside and has been given many more starting chances. He also has better athletic traits.
Safety (5): Eddie Jackson, Jaquan Brisker, DeAndre Houston-Carson, Dane Cruikshank, Elijah Hicks
Entering the draft weekend, the Chicago Bears walked in with three safeties. They added two. One is a lock for the roster and surely should be looked at as a starter right off of the bat. Elijah Hicks is much closer. Two things that put him on, for now, are his special team experience, and his character. Hicks appears to be the type of person that Poles wants to change the culture, and he could keep him around because he buys in.
Specialists (3): Cairo Santos, Patrick Scales, Trenton Gill
The Bears drafted Trenton Gill, and even as a seventh-round if you are going to toss a pick at a specialist he better make the roster.
