With the countdown on to training camp we are counting down the Chicago Bears roster. This will be looking at which players could possibly have the biggest impact on the team every week. We started at number 90 and our working our way down to number 70 today.

Chicago Bears roster ranking: No. 70 Jaylon Jones

Jaylon Jones is a rookie UDFA from Ole Miss. Jones was a cornerback for the Rebels. Jones is a bit older, but most prospects were this year thanks to the extra year due to COVID. Jones also missed some time due to injuries and redshirted a year after a season-ending injury.

Still, he was back on the field for 2021 to prove that he was healthy. That was not enough to get an invite to the NFL combine, though.

When he got the chance at his pro day to highlight his athleticism he did just that. Below you can see how he compared to Kindle Vildor.

It is fair that the Pro Day numbers are often a bit inflated compared to the NFL combine, but what we see here is a player who has the adequate athleticism to be given a chance on an NFL roster.

When it comes to the Chicago Bears, he could find a way to land on the roster, or at least the practice squad. As noted, he is more athletic than Kindle Vildor, and while he is a UDFA, he is a Ryan Poles addition, while Vildor was brought in from the old regime.

Kyler Gordon, Jaylon Johnson, Tavon Young, and Thomas Graham should be viewed as a top-four entering training camp. Beyond that, it is anyone’s game.

Jaylon Jones in not a front-runner for the fifth cornerback spot, but the fact that he can step In and compete for it puts him a bit higher than some of the other players on the roster. He is not quite as high as the top 53 and maybe looking at practice squad as a best case, but his athleticism gives him more room for error than some of the other UDFAs we have covered so far.
