We are getting closer to the start of the Chicago Bears season and as we countdown the downtime until then we are counting down the Bears roster. We are going from 90 to one to see which players will impact the 2022 season most.

We are all the way up to number 46 overall, nearing the halfway mark.

Chicago Bears 2022 roster ranking: No. 46 Trevor Siemian

Trevor Siemian is a backup quarterback for the Chicago Bears. It is hard to find the right ranking for a backup quarterback on these lists. In most cases, the best situation is that he does not play at all.

On the other end, he does bring some value. The team needs a backup, and without Siemian they are going to be looking at Nathan Peterman. They do need Siemian.

Beyond that, they signed him knowing he would be their ideal backup. Whatever it is that Luke Getsy and the coaches saw, they wanted Siemian. They wanted Siemian to be the person who helps Justin Fields develop in his second season.

Getsy wants Siemian to be the person who is helping Justin Fields learn the new offense. That brings value in itself.

The fact is that Siemian is not a 100% lock, but there is a small chance that he would get cut. You have to put Siemian in as one of the top 53 players on the roster. On the flipside, it is hard to get him up higher than anywhere like 45.

For now, 46 is a good spot for Siemian. Perhaps if his value starts to get fleshed out during the season and the team brings him back, then we could see him winding up as a player ranked a bit higher next year. Still, his role will always be a backup, and him knowing that he a backup is good for his future, but also hurts how much higher he can go.
