Chicago Bears Surprise Roster Cut: Dieter Eiselen, IOL

This one is going to sting some Chicago Bears fans who believe that Dieter Eiselen has looked better than the current starting center, Sam Mustipher. Yes, that has been said despite the snapping issues we have seen from Eiselen. No one wants to see Sam Mustipher start at center and everyone is hoping that Lucas Patrick is back by Week 1. Either way, his injury isn’t enough for him to start on injured reserve with a designation to return. The hope is he’s back by Week 1, but I don’t think anyone thinks he isn’t back by Week 2 or Week 3.

Most NFL teams keep a max of 10 offensive linemen. I went back to see how many the Chicago Bears kept over the last three years. In 2021, Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy kept 10 offensive linemen. The two kept nine in 2020 and eight in 2019. Let’s assume this regime is going to keep 10 offensive linemen this year. Here are the 10 guys who make the final roster before Dieter Eiselen.

  • Braxton Jones
  • Cody Whitehair
  • Lucas Patrick
  • Teven Jenkins
  • Larry Borom
  • Riley Reiff
  • Michael Schofield
  • Ja’Tyre Carter
  • Sam Mustipher
  • Zach Thomas

If Doug Kramer wasn’t on season-ending injured reserve, he too would have likely made the final roster and Zach Thomas or Ja’Tyre Carter would have likely been cut and put on the practice squad. The same could be said of what is to happen to Dieter Eiselen. I just know from hearing his name spoken on social media that he has a bit of a fandom and when the Chicago Bears release him, it will cut deep (pun intended).
