1. Contract Situation

The Minnesota Vikings cut Watts because it is a new coaching staff and front office, and they are bringing in their own guys. It also helps that Watts is only signed for one more season, so the team chose to keep players tied down longer.

For the Chicago Bears, they will have to decide if Watts is worth keeping rather quickly because he will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. As rookie contracts work, the player will get more as the deal progresses, and Watts hit playing time incentives as well.

With that in mind, despite being a sixth-round pick on a rookie salary, Watts is due $2.54M this season. So, the Bears essentially are giving Watts a one-year deal worth $2.54M in the hopes that he shows them enough to work out an extension this offseason.

Watts is 26 years old, so the team could work out a three-year deal and get tied down for the duration of his 20s. Keep this in mind, but also remember that he will be playing for a new contract as things go this season.
