Andrew Janocko was the final name to be on the future head coaching list

When I spoke earlier about Luke Getsy possibly becoming a head coach in the next coaching cycle, I mentioned that Justin Fields is going to be good enough to overcome that situation should it occur. I still believe that to be true, but I also feel confident that Matt Eberflus and Ryan Poles would promote quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko to offensive coordinator. This move would keep the offense similar in language and enough other areas to make the transition easier.

Tom Pelissero has Janocko on the same portion of the list as Richard Hightower. The big difference is that I see Janocko finding a promotion before Hightower. Janocko has had success in many different assistant coaching roles. He has experience as a quarterbacks coach, wide receivers coach and also as an offensive line coach. Seven of his 11 years of experience came with the Vikings. He makes for a good candidate but will need some play-calling experience first.

Only one of these coaches has a chance of seeing a head coaching offer in 2023 and that’s Luke Getsy. Hightower and Janocko will most likely be retained next season unless Janocko isn’t offered the promotion to offensive coordinator. If that happens, it’s possible he follows Getsy to whatever team he moves onto. This all said it’s also possible that Getsy is only interviewed and not hired. Or, more unlikely, but still possible, maybe Getsy turns down his offer hoping for a better situation.

One thing is for sure, the last seven games will make all the difference.
