Two Chicago Bears who can prove doubters wrong vs Falcons
Khalil Herbert’s injury could also mark the return of Velus Jones this week
Speaking of returning, the embattled rookie Velus Jones could be activated and should get touches at running back this week after being inactive the last two weeks. The fact that offensive coordinator Luke Getsy didn’t deny the idea gives credence that coaches are serious about activating Jones this week.
Velus Jones had muffed punts that led to losses against New York Giants and Washington Commanders, and a bad dropped pass against Dallas Cowboys that ultimately forced General Manager Ryan Poles to trade for Chase Claypool. To his credit, Jones didn’t sulk and accepted his demotion.
This game would be a great time to hand off the ball to Velus Jones and see what he can do as a runner. Perhaps the Bears can look at this week’s opponent, the Falcons, and see former Bear Cordelle Patterson thriving as a running back in their system and adapt it. Just like they did with Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens when they came up with designed run plays for Justin Fields.
The Chicago Bears owe it to themselves and see what they have in both Montgomery and Jones in order to get a clear view of their future with this team.
