Congratulations to anyone who ended up watching last Sunday’s Chicago Bears game from start to finish despite Justin Fields not playing. Not exactly a great way to close out your Thanksgiving Holiday, but I applaud your courage and determination.

If the thought of Trevor Siemian playing wasn’t bad enough, Nathan Peterman coming on to replace a player who suffered a non-football injury before the start of the game would have been comedic for the Bears.

Trevor Siemian played admirably, and the game was somewhat competitive in the first half despite suffering an oblique injury before the game. The Chicago Bears even led the game for a brief period in the second quarter. But the defense as usual gave it back thanks to a lack of pass rush and soft zone coverage that allowed Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore to shred the Bears’ secondary.

The Chicago Bears lost more than just a game vs the Jets

They were already missing safety Jaquan Brisker and Kyler Gordon to concussions and suffered more devastating news when Eddie Jackson suffered a Lisfranc injury. It was a non-contact injury that happened as Garrett Wilson ran past Jackson who was laying on the ground. That moment felt like when the game, as well as the season, officially slipped away.

When the second half started, things got ugly — much like the weather at the Meadowlands throughout the game. The offense stagnated, the defense couldn’t tackle, and injuries started to pile up. What’s worse, we still have five more games left to watch this season! This season can’t end soon enough.
