Chicago Bears Thought No. 1: Justin Fields masks so many issues

The loss yesterday exposed just how bad the talent level of this team has been and how much he means to this team. It reminded us of last year’s team when Andy Dalton was a starter and watching this team was not fun at all.

Ever since the ugly loss to the Washington Commanders, Fields has been incredibly productive thanks to offensive coordinator Luke Getsy’s decision to tailor his offense to cater to Fields’ strengths.

His ability to escape the pressure using his legs has led to incredible plays, which masked the offensive line’s inability to pass protect — a major issue throughout this season. His ability to run keeps the defense honest and allows receivers to get open since they can’t seem to create separation on their own.

Without him in the lineup, the Bears’ offense stagnated. They only scored 10 points. The offensive line did a decent job protecting Trevor Siemian in the first half — largely due to him throwing checkdowns. However, the second half started with a sack on the second play, and from there the offense did absolutely nothing. They were lucky that David Montgomery was able to at least pick up a few first downs on his own.

There is no doubt that talks of Justin Fields hoping to play this Sunday against the archrival Green Bay Packers will be loud and clear. But I have no problem with him sitting out until after the bye week. Let Siemian play this Sunday.
