6 thoughts following the Chicago Bears 31-10 loss to the Jets
Chicago Bears Thought No. 4: Could a new RB duo still thrive?
Both Darrynton Evans and David Montgomery provided an early spark in this loss. Evans was elevated from the practice squad and played over rookie Tresten Ebner, who did not play well last week against Atlanta. He had 67 total yards (34 yards on nine carries and one catch for 33 yards).
His only catch came in the first quarter where Trevor Siemian dumped off a short pass on the checkdown and showed great yards after the catch (YAC) ability to get inside the Jets’ 10-yard line. He has earned more playing time with Khalil Herbert still out with a hip injury.
As for Montgomery, he had 113 total yards (79 yards on 14 carries and three catches for 34 yards) and manages to get the first downs to keep the drive alive even when the game was already out of reach.
The effort both players put on yesterday should not go unnoticed. Montgomery should remain a starter even after Herbert returns from his injury and Evans needs to be more involved in the passing game.
