3. Velus Jones is still providing Chicago Bears with little

The Chicago Bears activated Velus Jones for the past three weeks. However, it has been little to get excited about, as he has typically been the sixth wide receiver in these occasions. The reality is that the only reason he is active is that Dane Cruikshank is out with a hamstring.

Velus Jones has the speed to replace him on special teams, and they decided to give Jones the extra spot rather than the next defensive back on the depth chart.

On offense, Jones has played about 10 snaps per game in his return. They get him a few jet sweeps, and in the past two weeks, Velus Jones has played four snaps in the backfield as a running back.

Still, that resulted in one toss play to Jones, and two of those snaps were from the wildcat formation. The fact is that the only time Jones can regularly play is when he is being schemed touches. They hardly ever ask him to run routes downfield, heck he blocks more than he runs real routes.

The Chicago Bears knew he was a gadget player, but he may be rawer than they thought. They also thought he would be a special team asset in the return game, and he has not won back the punt return job. He only got back on kickoffs because the team lost Khalil Herbert.

Considering the Bears have Chase Claypool, and Darnell Mooney and they will be added to the room in a bigger way this offseason, Jones is on track to be wide receiver five, and a special teams asset again next year.
