Chicago Bears Option No. 1: DeAndre Hopkins
The last time the Chicago Bears have had some respectable WR1s in recent years, such as Allen Robinson and Alshon Jeffery. But the last time they had a true game-breaker at the position was when they traded for Brandon Marshall. Stylistically, DeAndre Hopkins and Marshall are quite different, but from a talent and ability standpoint, they are quite comparable.
Whether the Arizona Cardinals will admit it or not, they appear to be headed for another rebuild. The team has been one of the worst in the NFC this season, and with Kyler Murray recently tearing his ACL, it’s unlikely they will be much better in 2023.
Hopkins is 30 and still playing at a high level. It doesn’t make much sense to hold a talented player in the final years of his prime captive on a team that has little chance of competing for anything meaningful in the immediate future.
The Chicago Bears could make these three surprise cuts in 2023
The Chicago Bears roster will look completely different in key areas next season. With another roster overhaul, these three players could be surprise cuts.
This would be a match made in heaven for the Chicago Bears. Hopkins would completely change the Bears’ offense from day one and give Justin Fields a true go-to guy. Also, Hopkins could be more affordable than many think, given his age and contract situation. Thankfully, the Bears have more than enough cap space to take on the contract.
