The Chicago Bears are playing for nothing, and to be honest, there is a lot of nothing starting at this point as well. Some key names for the future such as Justin Fields, Teven Jenkins, Darnell Mooney, Jack Sanborn, and Jaylon Johnson headline the names missing from the active roster right now, so there is not much to get excited about.
However, there are at least five players that could be worth looking into this week as they take on the Minnesota Vikings.
5. Is this David Montgomery’s last game with Chicago Bears
For some fans, their favorite player Is David Montgomery. Just in case, those fans should not miss this game. It is not a guarantee, but there certainly is a chance that this is the last game that Montgomery plays for the Chicago Bears.
This has little to do with Montgomery, and more to do with the nature of the business. Running backs have the shortest shelf life in the NFL and it is tough to invest in the long term. On the flip side, it is in the running backs best interest to protect their long-term value.
So, teams and players get into tough debates, especially at this position. For the Chicago Bears, you add in that Ryan Poles did not draft Montgomery, and he does have a roster with a lot of holes. He also has a roster with Khalil Herbert on it. Herbert is not quite Montgomery, but the price of Herbert compared to the price of Montgomery makes it a much tougher debate.
Every fan knows that if Montgomery is healthy he will suit up and give it his all. He may have one last show to give the Chicago Bears and their fans. Whether it will be a statement to re-sign him, or a goodbye wish, it will be worth watching.
