Chicago Bears Thought No. 5: Cole Kmet had a nice game and a nice season
Cole Kmet scored one of two touchdowns yesterday. He finished the season with 7 touchdowns compared to 0 touchdowns last season. He really developed a nice chemistry with Justin Fields as a reliable red-zone target this season as he led the team in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.

The big question is how the current regime sees him. Again, he’s a player, that was inherited from the previous regime. Do they see him as a key contributor, or will they want to move on because they didn’t draft him?
However, no one should ever confuse him with becoming a Travis Kelce-like tight end. Plus, he has shown he still has a penchant for dropping passes and missed blocks that have led to sacks this season.
The trajectory is going up for Kmet though, and it should only get better. The Bears would be wise to work out an extension with him given they have plenty of cap space available this offseason.
Because he’s a local kid from Arlington Heights, and he probably would like to stay long-term, don’t be surprised if both sides agree to a contract extension.
