The Chicago Bears should also be interested in Jakobi Meyers

Jakobi Meyers has a vastly different playing style than Chark, but one could argue that he makes even more sense as a target since he gives Chicago something they don’t have at receiver. Meyers might not have the speed to take the top off of defenses, but he operates as a highly effective slot receiver who carves defenses up on underneath routes using his superb route-running ability.

Meyers has improved significantly since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He has put up over 800 yards in the previous two seasons and would have probably cleared the 1000-yard mark if he didn’t miss three games this year.

The pass-catcher would step into Chicago’s offense and immediately provide Fields with a trusty safety blanket out of the slot. Patriots’ quarterbacks had a passer rating of 117.1 when targeting the 26-year-old (eighth-best in the league), and he ranked just outside the top 20 with 2.04 yards of separation per target. He still has room to grow in some areas of his game (like late-game awareness, for one), but he would be a welcome addition to an offense starving for reliable playmakers.

It is safe to say that Meyers is no longer an unknown commodity, but he still has not received the respect he deserves as one of the league’s most savvy route-runners. He is another player that might never become a number one receiver, but he is a rock-solid number two option at the very least. A receiver room consisting of Darnell Mooney, Chase Claypool, and Jakobi Meyers would give Chicago one of the most well-rounded three-receiver sets in the league.
