4 Eagles the Chicago Bears can add to the 2023 roster
Gardner Minshew is another free agent the Chicago Bears should consider
Many people are probably shocked by the fact I don’t have Javon Hargrave listed. I love Hargrave and he’d make an immediate impact on the Chicago Bears defensive line. However, I am not interested in paying a 30-year-old defensive tackle upwards of $20 million per season. Therefore, he’s not on this list. That said, I wouldn’t hate it if he wore navy and orange next season.
When I look at the roster, I don’t have a problem with the backup quarterback. That said, I think the team needs to find a player who fits a similar skill set to Justin Fields. Trevor Siemian is not a mobile quarterback, but Gardner Minshew has proven to fit that mold. When he was a rookie, he ran the ball 67 times for 344 yards. He followed that up with 29 rushes for 153 yards his next season. Now, these are not Justin Fields’ numbers, but he’s at least more similar than Siemian.
Backup quarterback is going to be important when your quarterback runs as much as Justin Fields. Even Jalen Hurts saw time away due to an injury this year. Minshew isn’t going to make or break the Bears’ 2023 roster, but he definitely could help add value to it.
