This offseason was not as exciting for the Chicago Bears as the fan base had hoped, but still, a lot of good moves were made.

Of course, the headlines were the signings of Coby Bryant and Devin Bush to the defense, as well as Dillon Thieneman's selection in the first round. Arguably the biggest move of the offseason was the Bears trading DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills for a second-round pick.

While those were the big ones Bears fans were talking about, there were plenty of really underrated moves that will help the team out for the 2026 season.

Four underrated moves the Bears made during the offseason

Hiring Eric Studesville as new running backs coach

Not one that will help on the field directly, but Bears head coach Ben Johnson had the impossible task of replacing running back Eric Bieniemy after taking the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator job. Johnson did well in hiring Studesville after spending nearly a decade with the Miami Dolphins, mainly coaching running backs. He has coached seven 1,000-yard rushers in the last three decades, so D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai are in good hands with Studesville.

Signing cornerback Cam Lewis in free agency

The secondary took a hit with five guys exiting in free agency at cornerback and safety, so depth was crucial for the Bears. Lewis may not be the best free agent signing; he might end up being the most important one, with concerns about Kyler Gordon's health potentially giving Lewis a shot at starting in 2026. Chicago brought in a guy with plenty of experience from his time with the Buffalo Bills who can benefit them if they need to throw Lewis in the lineup.

Selecting cornerback Malik Muhammad in the fourth round of 2026 NFL Draft

Muhammad was a steal in the fourth round to the point that he could be a Day 1 starter. After getting benched late in the 2025 season, Tyrique Stevenson has some big questions going into 2026 as the potential new starter at CB2. Muhammad is going to push Stevenson at the position in training camp, which could make this an intriguing storyline throughout the season. Regardless, though, Muhammad could end up being a great asset to a secondary that needs all the help they can get.

Bringing back Brittain Brown on reserve/future contract

Roschon Johnson has come under question about his future status in Chicago, leaving the RB3 job up for grabs. Brown stepped in against the Cincinnati Bengals last year as Kyle Monangai's backup with Johnson and D'Andre Swift injured, leading to Brown scoring his first NFL touchdown and putting up a nice performance with five carries for 37 yards and the score. Don't be surprised if Brown pushes Johnson for that third-string job and could end up being a great asset on offense and special teams.
