The Chicago Bears finally pulled the trigger on a move even the least engaged football fan could have seen coming. Head coach Matt Eberflus, who piled up a 14-32 record and lost six straight games after No. 1 pick Caleb Williams started off 4-2 as a rookie, was fired.

The one silver lining throughout what has become a painful losing streak has been Williams, as he has taken huge steps in the right direction by playing the best ball of his young career. To take that next step, he will need help from an offensive mind that can accentuate his natural gifts as a player.

Chicago needs to eschew hiring another defensive coach like Eberflus, who never got the offensive side of the ball figured out with the Bears. These four candidates all make tons of sense as a pairing with Williams.

4. Thomas Brown, Interim HC, Chicago Bears

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. In three games against divisional opponents, all of whom have Top 10 scoring defenses and two of which were on the road, Williams put up numbers that would have him on pace for 4,686 yards and 28 touchdowns in a full 17-game season. He also set a record for most consecutive passes by a rookie without an interception.

Despite his stint as OC in Carolina last year, Brown is a highly-regarded Sean McVay disciple who will be in demand if he is not retained by Chicago. If he is already developing a special relationship with Williams, who is the most talented quarterback the Bears have had in years, he could hang around.

3. Todd Monken, OC, Baltimore Ravens

Monken may have come into the NFL for his second go-around with a reputation as a mad bomber who loves the deep ball, but he has changed his philosophies on the fly to help Lamar Jackson. In his first season on the job, Jackson won an MVP, and he could be on his way to another one in 2024.

Monken going to Williams would allow him to show the full extent of his wondrous arm talent, which could be the best way to prove the Bears finally have their quarterback situation figured out.

2. Kliff Kingsbury, OC, Washington Commanders

Kingsbury worked with Williams during his college days at USC, and the results were so exemplary that Caleb was picked No. 1 overall. While his offenses have a habit of slowing down in the second half, Kingsbury has largely done tremendous work with No. 2 pick Jayden Daniels in his rookie year.

Kingsbury has past experience as a head coach. While it ended poorly, he did take the Cardinals from the worst record in the league to the playoffs in three years. His second attempt with Williams could be a bit more productive.

1. Ben Johnson, OC, Detroit Lions

Johnson is at the top of every team's wish list for head coaching candidates, and it makes sense after turning the Lions into a machine of an offense that can grind any team into submission. Johnson will have his pick of offers when he decides to finally take the reins away from Detroit.

Johnson would instantly give the Bears a lightning bolt of creativity they need at the higher levels of the org chart, as the work he has done taking Jared Goff from good to great borders on remarkable. Any quarterback who gets Johnson as his coach would be very lucky.
