3. Will Tyler Scott and Zaach Pickens make any meaningful contributions this season?

The Chicago Bears' 2023 draft class has seen mixed results.

• Tackle Darnell Wright • Defensive Tackle Gervon Dexter
• Cornerback Tyrique Stevenson
• Defensive Tackle Zacch Pickens
• Running Back Roschon Johnson • Wide Receiver Tyler Scott • Linebacker Noah Sewell • Cornerback Terell Smith
• Defensive Tackle Travis Bell
• Safety Kendall Williamson

Wright, Dexter, Stevenson are all starters who have made significant contributions even as a rookie while both Johnson and Smith were all solid contributors last year. Dexter currently leads the NFL in sacks by interior defensive linemen, and Johnson has helped the run game in the last two games.

The two players who have not made any significant contributions so far that stand out are Pickens and Scott. For Pickens, many had high hopes that he was going to be a part of the defensive line rotation. But he barely made any contributions as a rookie and he has been mostly inactive due to a groin injury this season. Even worse for Pickens, Dexter took a big step this season after he spent the entire off-season transforming himself.

As for Scott, people will remember he dropped two passes that could have been touchdowns against the Atlanta Falcons in their last home game last season. He has vertical speed but he is buried in the depth chart after acquiring veteran Keenan Allen and drafting Rome Odunze this off-season. Even worse for Scott, veteran DeAndre Carter, who is also a punt returner has gotten more touches on offense so far this season.

For Pickens and Scott, it is unfortunate that neither has taken that huge step this season like Dexter has. There is still time left this season for both of them to make contributions once they are healthy or someone goes down with an injury. Right now though, their outlook for this season looks bleak and they will be competing with others to make the roster next season.
