5. The interior offensive line continues to be decimated by injuries. But Bill Murray's emergence was encouraging

The offensive line showed some growth against the Carolina Panthers following an ugly penalty fest against the Los Angeles Rams the week before. They gave Williams plenty of time to throw and only allowed a sack. When you are not shooting yourselves with penalties, it is amazing to see how productive this offense was.

Unfortunately, guard Teven Jenkins suffered an ankle injury and was replaced by Bill Murray. A former defensive lineman turned offensive lineman, he actually drew rave reviews from many for his efforts after replacing Jenkins.

No one should confuse Murray as the second coming of James "Big Cat" Williams just yet. But his performance confirms general manager Ryan Poles was probably right about the offensive line having the best depth since he came here.

Murray's emergence is another sign that the Bears no longer trust Nate Davis anymore. If Murray does a nice job filling in for Jenkins when he gets injured which keeps happening, they probably won't re-sign Jenkins, who is a free-agent after this season. Keeping Murray and drafting a young guard in the 2025 Draft seems more cost effective.
