Justin Fields has taken a totally different path than Chicago Bears fans had originally planned out in their minds, back when he was drafted, but he continues to do well for himself.
The 2021 first-round pick is now on his fourth pro team in the Kansas City Chiefs. And, although he's no longer a starting quarterback in this league, Fields continues to garner the positive attention from coaches that he's always gotten.
After a recent OTA practice with the Chiefs, head coach Andy Reid had this to say about early impressions of Fields:
"Very smart and a hard worker. Very calm. He's a cool cucumber, man. He gets it. You can tell he's been there."
That sounds about right. Since the very beginning, Bears fans felt those exact sentiments and had those very same reactions to watching and listening to Fields.
Chicago Bears fans will always hold Justin Fields near and dear to their heart
It hasn't mattered where Fields has been, he's continued to make Bears fans proud. This fan base will never forget Fields, and a large portion of it will never stop rooting for him, primarly because of who he is as a person.
From Day 1, Fields has conducted himself as a true professional in this league. His humility rings through in just about every word he has ever said. Fields has never acted as though he was the smartest man in the room. He's never commanded the spotlight. He's always been the one to take the blame for losses.
People can say a lot about Fields as a player. Some might even go so far as to call him a "bust," which I would argue to the death. He's been anything but a bust. The fact that he is a reliable backup and someone who can come in and start, leading a team the right way, is proof that he's made it.
He may not have lived up to his billing as a first-round quarterback who could be a franchise guy, but Fields is in the NFL and continues to be trusted for a reason. A big part of that reason is the fact that he carries himself the way he does. There is something to be said about a humble and hard-working quarterback with the type of electric talent he possesses.
In any of his big performances with the Bears and after any one of his several game-breaking touchdown runs, Fields could have showered in the praise. Instead, he would celebrate with his teammates and, after the games, give all of the credit to his coaches, teammates and of course his big men up front.
That's who he is. That's why Bears fans quickly fell in love with him. That's why it was so hard to watch Chicago make the decision to trade him away.
Don't get me wrong. Caleb Williams is special. But, Fields will always hold a place in the hearts of those who have loved him from the very beginning.

And now, he gets a massive opportunity to back up arguably the best quarterback in the game. Learning from Patrick Mahomes and playing underneath a coach like Reid could be fantastic for Fields' ability to continue playing in this league for a long time.
