It's been an excellent week for Chicago Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent, who has become the belle of the ball in the Windy City.

He began by throwing nearly 200 yards and a touchdown against the Buffalo Bills and helping the Bears shut them out 38-0. Bagent got a brand new two-year contract extension to become the first Bears quarterback to be extended in a decade.

Now the conversation has shifted to where does he rank among the other backup quarterbacks in the NFC North. The panel at CHSN discussed this with them agreeing that Bagent might be the best in the division.

"I think it's not an exaggeration to look at that list and think very confidently that the Bears have as good of a backup quarterback as there is in the division."

Is Bagent the best backup QB in the NFC North?

The comparison being made is between Bagent, Detroit Lions' Hendon Hooker, Minnesota Vikings' Sam Howell, and Green Bay Packers' Malik Willis. Hooker hasn't had nearly as much experience as Bagent, so there isn't much of a comparison.

Willis and Howell have started in the NFL with not much success. Howell has more experience, but is 5-13 as a starter while Willis is 3-2 as a start, but only has three touchdowns and three interceptions in his career.

Bagent has been the more accurate quarterback of them all as he has completed over 66% of his passes and is 2-2 as a starter. Those starts came in his rookie season which is more impressive to see.

During preseason, Bagent has completely outperformed the other three backups in every way possible.

Right now, it appears that Bagent is the best of the NFC North backup quarterbacks and the one in the division that if the starter gets hurts can keep the ship from sinking. That's a good feeling for Bears head coach Ben Johnson to have and a big reason Chicago gave Bagent a contract extension.
