The mental game is just as important as the physical game.

The numbers were impressive for Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams in the team's 38-0 shutout win against the Buffalo Bills.

Williams completed six of 10 passes for 107 yards and one touchdown. He showed great poise in the pocket and ran Bears head coach Ben Johnson's offense to perfection with their bootlegs and quick passes.

Bears fans and media couldn't get enough of Williams' performance with praise being rained on him. While it's important to focus on the physical part of the job, the mental part played a big role in Williams and the Bears' offense succeeding against the Bills.

Williams, Bears' offense won the battle with pre-snap decisions

The panel at CHSN discussed the impressive performance by the Bears, with analyst Clay Harbor starting out by praising Williams and the offense for their work pre-snap.

"They were actually using the snap count as a weapon. They got somebody to jump offsides. We haven't seen that all of training camp. That was something good to see. They're starting to get it and they're starting to be comfortable enough to use this as a weapon like you are supposed to."

Ruthie Polinsky added that while it should be understood that the Bears did all this against the Bills' backups, Chicago still controlled what they could control and that's the mental aspect of the game.

"Everything that happens presnap, that doesn't matter who you're going up against. That's all about you."

This means more than some might think, because it was the number one problem for the Bears in training camp. There were multiple reports of the offense struggling to line up correctly and incurring penalties to the point that Johnson kicked out the first-team offense because of it.

It's just one small part of the Bears' offense, but it's crucial to do the small things correctly. That attention to detail has been something Johnson has pushed on his team all offseason workouts and in training camp.

Now it's a matter of whether the offense can do it on a consistent basis.
