Former Chicago Bears wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad spent three memorable seasons with the team which happened to include a Super Bowl appearance, but was always on the receiving end of subpar quarterback play.
His son, Moose Muhammad, went undrafted this year but signed with the Carolina Panthers as a free agent, in hopes to be catching passes from former no. 1 overall pick Bryce Young. Already, those hopes appear to have been dashed.
The Panthers chose to release Muhammad with an injury designation less than a month after signing him to their roster.
The Bears could choose to give Moose Muhammad a chance down the line
Despite being let go in Carolina, Muhammad still has a future ahead of him. The former Texas A&M wideout is only 24 years old.
Barring any news of this being a serious injury designation, Muhammad should have another shot at pursuing his NFL dreams. What about the Bears as his next opportunity?
At the moment, Chicago has DJ Moore, Rome Odunze and rookie Luther Burden III as their top three wide receivers.
Behind those three, though, it gets a little murky. Next up is probably the veteran Olamide Zaccheaus followed by special teams ace Devin Duvernay.
Tyler Scott is likely no. 6 in pecking order and could make the team if they chose to keep six wideouts.
But, if you're looking at next year, the bottom half of the depth chart could look much different. Both Duvernay and Zaccheaus are on 1-year deals with the Bears for 2025, while Scott might not even be on the roster much longer.
The six-foot Muhammad might present the Bears with an opportunity to, at the very least, get their chance at a solid practice squad player to begin with. His best season came in 2022 when Muhammad caught 38 passes for 610 yards and four touchdowns.
