It's amazing to see the progression of Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams from training camp to now, Week 13, and how much has changed.
Bears head coach Ben Johnson wanted to focus on quicker decisions from Williams, accuracy, and being a playmaker. Johnson did that by throwing everything at Williams all at once to see how he would respond.
At 8-3 on the season and just a 1.1% interception rate in 2025, Williams seems to be handling all of it pretty well. Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, while speaking with the team, pointed out one specific aspect of the offense that Williams has really bought into: the play-action game.
"We felt that it was an important element that we wanted in the offense, and Caleb has really embraced it."
"He's come a long way from where we started."
Williams is slowly progressing into one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL
Last season, when Williams used his legs, it was more about escaping pass rushers. This season, while he's still doing that, it's more about running when no receivers are open, and he's got a hole to run.
He's been stellar at using his legs to give receivers time to complete their routes and throw it to them on play action. Williams' athleticism is fully on display in Johnson's offense, and fans are quickly discovering how fast he is with his feet and decision-making.
This season, Williams has thrown for 2,568 yards and 16 touchdowns to four interceptions. He's also rushed for 293 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
There are certainly things Williams needs to improve on with his accuracy, but he more than makes up for it with his ability to get out of trouble and make the throws. He's slowly become one of the most underrated athletic quarterbacks in the NFL.

Williams has all the tools to be a great quarterback, and he is close to reaching that level. Once he really gets comfortable in Johnson's system, no one is stopping him.
