Bears defense could repeat ugly Lions performance in latest prediction

The Chicago Bears had some injury added to insult after their blowout loss on Sunday with the news of cornerback Jaylon Johnson being out indefinitely, possibly for the rest of the 2025 season, with a groin injury. That was the last bit of news they needed after getting absolutely obliterated on Sunday by the Detroit Lions to the tune of 52 points.

After the barrage of scoring with the Vikings pouring it on in the 4th quarter back in Week 1 followed by the Lions dropping 52 points, the Bears might be going from insult to injury and back to insult again in Week 3. The defense that just gave up 52 points to the Lions now has to face the Dallas Cowboys, who have scored 60 points in the first two weeks, including 40 points on Sunday against the Giants.

In the latest bold predictions from Ryan Heckman at NFL Spin Zone for Week 3, the Bears might be having dejá vu with a sequel performance nobody wants to see.

Bears give up another 5 TD performance in latest Week 3 predictions

Here's what Heckman's prediction had to say about what Bears fans might expect in his bold Week 3 predictions:

"Dak Prescott ties his career-high with 5 touchdown passes against the Bears: Coming off a game where the Bears let Jared Goff throw five touchdowns, it isn't going to get much better. Dak Prescott just threw for 360 yards and a couple of scores and, against the Bears, he'll tie his career-best of five through the air, just like Goff did the week prior.

Lost in all of this, though, is another Bears loss and another game where fans wonder if Ryan Poles really did draft the wrong quarterback in Caleb Williams. This isn't anything new for Bears fans or the NFL, but we are talking about a quarterback some called the best prospect since Andrew Luck."

Prescott has thrown five touchdowns in a game just once in his career, and that was back in the 2021 season. It would be an absolute catastrophe for the Bears defense to allow five touchdown passes two weeks in a row to Jared Goff and Dak Prescott, but with the news of Jaylon Johnson being out, would it really surprise anyone?

This would be a classic case of kicking someone while they're down, and it just doesn't feel right now like the Bears are above that. NFL teams have too much pride to get their teeth kicked in like that two weeks in a row, but it's not impossible.

Heck, there are several ways it could happen, including the Bears getting into a shootout with the Cowboys. Maybe Prescott throws five touchdowns in a shootout loss. The NFL is weird like that.

But if this prediction comes to pass, some serious discussions would need to be had about whether or not Dennis Allen is fit for his job as defensive coordinator.
