In the midst of several roster cuts, the Chicago Bears finally made a move that the majority of this fan base saw coming for a while now.
In efforts to reshape the wide receiver room under first-year head coach Ben Johnson, the Bears opted to release former fourth-round pick, Tyler Scott. Just two seasons into his pro career, Scott will have to find a new home.
The Bears cut Tyler Scott and admit failure on Ryan Poles' recent draft whiff
Scott came to the Bears as a wide receiver who could potentially be the team's no. 2 option in that room, if all went according to plan. Needless to say, it did not. In his two years with the Bears, Scott totaled just 18 receptions for 173 yards and zero touchdowns.
Here is the kicker, though: last season, Scott caught one pass on one target and it went for five yards. That's it.
The Bears went out and signed Olamide Zaccheaus and Devin Duvernay, among others, and then drafted Luther Burden III early in the second round. That immediately sealed Scott's fate, regardless of how long he stuck on the roster from there on out.
Scott had the chance to impress during training camp and the preseason, but continued to struggle with mental errors. Most notably, Scott fumbled the opening kickoff in the preseason tilt against the Buffalo Bills.
Now, the Bears will move on and allow a fresh start for the former Cincinnati Bearcat. Hopefully, for Scott's sake, he finds a new home and catches on quickly. The speed and potential was always there coming out of college, but Scott couldn't put it together in Chicago. It was an unfortunate and shortened tenure for the 23-year-old who, by all accounts, was a very likable and genuine guy off the field.
